Battlefield 6's Relaxed Game Mode Sparks Heated Debates Regarding AI Players, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough format but includes several notable adjustments:

  • Every squad includes just 8 human participants, with the rest filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Actions performed by human gamers award full XP, while bot actions provide reduced XP.
  • Only two locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Features like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.

In short, the playlist delivers on its title: it's a casual take of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, as it gives additional choices for gamers seeking alternative ways to have fun with the title. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, a lot of BF6 fans are mad.

Community Reactions: Anger to Support

"People want real players. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," reads a response to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing idea," says a different user. At the same time, in community forums, one user notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," while someone else details all the issues they believe to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

However, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, human participants prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," reads one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are players who have lives and don't play this title 24/7. Let them strike a balance," adds another. A response via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is great for me," and another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Criticisms and Player Feedback

All that said, players have constructive reasons to criticize Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it will make queue times even longer for other modes because of the sheer number of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to eliminate XP farming from the system. So Casual Breakthrough feels like the community meeting them halfway, according to forum feedback. A different user labels this addition as the devs "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced so much fun in the initial release, what prompted them to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Be Made?

Should the development team has proven anything so far with the latest installment, it is that they're listening and responding to player input. Assignments that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data indicates this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to change it again.
