🔗 Share this article Jets Head Coach Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After NYC Shooting New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and believes the player will be OK after being shot in central New York in the early hours of Sunday. Glenn noted that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “positive” during their latest talk. “What reassures me, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His wife and his kid, they’re in good spirits and he will come through this without issue.” Glenn was unsure when Boyd could be discharged the medical facility, where he has been listed as critical but stable. “Don’t know just yet,” Glenn remarked. “Yet I must mention, hearing him speak, he seemed very positive. Furthermore, that reassures me, given his positive frame of mind and he’s talking that way.” NYPD issued video stills Monday of a suspect in the shooting of Boyd. A motive for the shooting is currently under review and police mentioned it remains uncertain if Boyd was the intended victim. There were no additional victims according to reports. The shooting happened around 2 a.m. on Sunday about halfway between MSG and Times Square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was transported to a local hospital after being shot in the abdomen, police said. The assailant escaped. Glenn said Boyd has occupied his thinking “a great deal” since learning of the incident. Glenn added that Boyd and his wife just had a baby. “My initial concern, he just had a kid,” Glenn noted. “My mind went to his family, I’m thinking about his kid and I hope he recovers fully. Those thoughts dominated my thinking. “There’s a process to this, I’ll keep private, but I am pleased that he will recover excellently.” Boyd was inactive in the present campaign, his first with the Jets, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on August 18 with an injury to his shoulder that required surgery. He joined the Jets as a free agent in spring and was projected as a significant contributor of an improved special teams group under Glenn and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during preseason drills on early August and was taken away on a cart. Boyd has stayed involved with the squad during the entire campaign while healing from his surgery. “He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn stated. “Certainly, he attends every game. He is completely involved. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.” Boyd, from Texas, spent his initial four years with Minnesota after getting drafted in the seventh round by the Vikings out of UT in the 2019 draft. He joined Arizona in 2023 and later was with the Texans after that. Boyd inked a single-season agreement worth $1.6m with New York in March.
