The beloved crime series Line of Duty will make a comeback for its seventh installment, announced by the BBC.

A brand new six-episode series created by the show's creator will begin filming in Northern Ireland in the coming months, according to the production team.

The actress shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, saying she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar added, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together next year."

The previous season wrapped up in 2021 with a final episode that drew in more than 17 million audience members. Speculation about a new season have been widespread for some time, but official word only arrived recently.

Series seven will open with AC-12 having been disbanded and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to the announcement.

Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings continue working to combat misconduct within the police force.

Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, these officers will take on their "most delicate case so far."

A new character, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer known for takedowns of criminal networks, faces allegations of abusing his position to act as a offender.
