The Gruesome Animated Film Ending That Stays With Fans

Out of every mature animated films I have ever watched, nothing has stuck with me as much as the dread-soaked ending of a graphically gory as well as overwhelingly transgressive film from 2022 The Unicorn Wars.

Back in the year 2015, this Spanish writer-director created a dark, bleak and frequently brutal world that included a few small , desolate twinges of optimism.

Although Unicorn Wars appears as it came from a drive to push animation further, the filmmaker clarified that it was actually an effort to convey a global, cross-cultural theme concerning “the common origin of each battle.”

That idea is expressed through a group of vividly colored bears , clearly based on a popular line of cuddly figures.

Growing up in a community centered on aggression as well as the defense industry, a lot of these creatures are consumed by slaughtering the mythical beasts, because of a religious scripture which states them they were once kings of the woodland, until the unicorns expelled them.

Others haven’t fully fallen for the brainwashing, , prefer to try out substances and engage sexually in the forest.

In contrast to their cuddly equivalents, these colorful critters have visible genitals , clear sex drives.

For a particular notably brutal, pessimistic creature, the character Bluey, the battle with the unicorns transforms into a path toward dominance — and especially to supremacy above his gentler, more compassionate sibling the bear Tubby.

The character behaves aggressively and an apparent antisocial figure , and as horror overcomes his group and takes his comrades sequentially, he grabs more and more control on his own behalf, in increasingly violent, harmful methods.

Meanwhile, these mythical beings are suffering their own terror, in the form of an expanding, destructive monster in their woods.

“In the early stages, it appears as a lighthearted film,” the filmmaker commented. “But then it turns into a more dramatic and sorrowful movie. And by the end, it transforms into a terrifying movie.”

Unicorn Wars commences feeling a bit like one of the more quirky features by a renowned animator, that discover a wicked pleasure in permitting drawn beings curse, fire weapons, or sex each other up.

Subsequently it evolves into more akin to a darker film from that director, including ever more graphic violence and a palpable relation to the actual tragedy of conflict.

Ultimately, it is an outright Grand Guignol carnage.

The horror that makes this an ideal spooky-season viewing starts much sooner than that description suggests.

The Unicorn Wars is one for the hardcore gorehounds, for enthusiasts of graphic films who want to watch a film they’ve never seen on-screen before, and who can handle a narrative that offers absolutely no punches.

Watch it in a dark room with no disturbances, and the finale will crawl into your mind and linger.
