🔗 Share this article The network's Premier New Show of This Year Earns a Significant Extension for Two More Seasons. In October of last year, the late-night programming block saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. However, shortly thereafter, the network unveiled a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique tone. Haha, You Clowns emerged as gentle and comforting, reminiscent of a animated take of a contemplative talk show. At a time often characterized by dark humor, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and propelled it a surprise hit. A Two-Season Greenlight In mid-December, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for a further two seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three respectful teenage brothers whose primary trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four central characters. "I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for seasons to come." Network Praise Accompanying the news laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He specifically highlighted the fans who found the show and championed its peculiarly charming sensibility. "All of you supported this new show, praised it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'" A Wholesome Alternative When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. It offers something surprisingly comfy about observing this charming family go about their daily lives. In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa expressed his hope to help comedy break out of its long-running cynical streak. He attributed this trend to various cultural shifts. “It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we need to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.” What Comes Next Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to be part of that comedic shift. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences a little more time to experience the gentle humor of the endearing Campbell clan. The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is currently streaming on HBO Max.
