The visionary game developer, renowned for co-creating the globally famous first-person shooter Call of Duty, has died in a traffic collision in the state of California he was 55 years old.

His passing was verified by Electronic Arts, which owns Respawn Entertainment, a game studio he co-founded.

The renowned industry figure lost his life when his automobile collided and burst into flames on a freeway in the Los Angeles area on Sunday, US media outlets report.

"We are facing an unimaginable loss, and we stand with his family and friends, those closest to him, and everyone impacted by his creative vision," a spokesperson for Electronic Arts commented.
